I started on a support desk and ended up as the person founders call when a technical decision is about to get expensive.

Twenty-five years, most of it writing code and running the teams that write it. ColdFusion and custom CMS work through the 2000s. Full-stack development and database architecture through the 2010s. Then eleven years at Business Builders, the last eight of them owning the P&L across three departments — which is the part that changed how I give advice.

What I do now is judgment work. Companies bring me in when they have a development team they can't evaluate, a build that has stalled for reasons nobody has named, or a decision — a platform, a vendor, a rewrite — that's cheap this week and very expensive in eighteen months.

The value isn't that I know a framework. It's that I've watched enough of these go wrong to recognize the shape of it early, and I'm willing to put that in writing while changing course is still cheap.

I still write code, and that matters more than it sounds. Advisory that drifts away from implementation turns into strategy decks, and strategy decks don't survive contact with a real codebase. I read the code, I build the thing when building is what's needed, and I keep enough hands-on depth to know when an estimate is wrong.

How one person carries this much

The reasonable question when a single engineer claims to cover architecture, delivery, and operations.

I work with a team of ten specialized AI agents I have built and trained, each with a defined role and a documented process — principal engineer, technical PM, front-end and UI/UX, security operations, DevOps, QA, SEO, messaging, content strategy, and a database specialist.

The split is deliberate. Decisions that require judgment stay human: architecture, tradeoffs, what to build, what to refuse. The repetitive technical work — scaffolding, reviews against a checklist, documentation, regression sweeps — runs through the agents under engineering discipline. That is what keeps quality up rather than cutting corners, and it is why the constraint is my judgment rather than my typing speed.

At Business Builders, I took over the Support and Hosting departments which had little to no visibility to profitability nor pain points to address on a consistent, proactive basis. Support work was being done with inconsistent billing, much of it given away for free. Hosting had high server expenses eating into margins, no standardized processes, and no systematic way to monitor performance or costs.

T Task

Transform both departments into profitable, well-managed operations with clear processes, visibility, and sustainable margins, while maintaining service quality for existing clients.

A Action

I led comprehensive improvements across both departments:

Support Department:

  • Conducted full review of support processes with the team to identify inefficiencies
  • Identified billing opportunities, work that should be billable was being given away free
  • Implemented better hourly billing structure for clients
  • Created monitoring and iteration cycles to continuously improve

Hosting Department:

  • Led search for alternative hosting platform equal or better than current solution at lower cost
  • Coordinated migration of 100+ existing sites to the new platform
  • Led onboarding of 75 new clients migrating from their existing hosts
  • Managed high-touch communication with clients and their IT teams on DNS updates, email troubleshooting, and issue resolutions
